Holiday in my home

Better late in the day than never, here are some snapshots taken in my home today. Linking up with Gussy Sews’ Inspiration Workshop! Head over there to check out other bloggers’ takes on Gussy’s theme.

A little something extra added to the mantel this year: Filigree candelabra from Willow House, barn painting by my father, Anthony Hedrick (, pillar candles from Target.

Some of my very favorite holiday decorations are unique but inexpensive treasures I came across at Arc's Value Village (thrift store.) For example: This macrame Santa that hangs from the tip top of his tall red hat...

...and this felted wool tree with real wood base. Tiffany's bowl (a wedding gift from the sexton at St. George's Anglican Church in Montreal), faux fruit...

...and these funky little bendable pipe-cleanery Christmas trees, also ARC finds.

The cornerstone of our holiday decor is always our growing ornament collection. Each has a story attached to it. For example: The birds remind me of my Grandma Sylvia, who passed away in April. I added the red cardinal this year in tribute to her. She loved to collect porcelain birds and whenever I spend time watching birds out the window, I always think of her. The beautiful scroll ornament that says "Rejoice!" was lovingly cross-stitched by my mother as a gift for Jeremy on our very first Christmas as a married couple (Victoria, British Columbia, 1990)...

...and this one accompanied "Rejoice!"...another cross-stitched beauty created by my mother's sweet little hands, this time with me in mind.

We have a lot of musical instrument ornaments, a fun twist for our music-loving family. We have acoustic and electric guitars, violins, tambourines, drums, mandolins, trumpets and saxophones...what should we add next year?

A very special gift to me by my beloved Jeremy one Christmas Eve, this ballerina's story can be found in an earlier blog post, "Why So Much Music?"

These customized ornaments, painted on wood and hung with ribbon were created by Etsy shop owner artbykristi.

And one last image today...our piano, ready to accompany Christmas Carol singers, a seven-year old's fledgling efforts on violin and a fourteen-year old's croonings on sax. Piled high with a holiday book collection that comes out only this time of year...this scene speaks volumes about holiday decor in our home.
